For some, the specter of a hypodermic needle as much as possible avoided. If forced, they also tend to reflex to look away so as not to see the process of entry of the needle into a vein. Yet according to the study, see the process actually reduces the pain of injections.

The conclusion was based on the trial team from University College London (UCL) and University of Milan-Bicocca to know the response when the brain receives pain signals.

Experiments carried out by applying heat to the hands of 18 volunteers. Participants were able to withstand higher temperatures when looking at their hands in the mirror, than when his hand closed timber beams.

Through a convex mirror, they see the process when the hand is given a touch of heat. Witnessing the process that allows them to reduce the level of pain up to 3 degrees Celsius, compared to when they do not see the process.

This research has been published in Psychological Science, and provide new insight into how the brain processes pain signals.

"The interesting thing is the relationship between the experience of pain and the brain representation of the body," said Professor Patrick Haggard, of the UCL, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

"Our research has shown the existence of an interesting interplay between the visual brain tissue and brain tissue pain," he said.

Although the research is to see the pain that was not too severe, but it could help scientists develop new treatments for patients who experience chronic pain.
